Mark Thomson

Assistant to the Labor Member

U.S. Railroad Retirement Board

Mark Thomson is an assistant to Walter A. Barrows, Labor Member of the U.S. Railroad Retirement Board. At the time of his appointment, Thomson was the manager of the RRB’s district office in Omaha, Nebraska, a position he had held since August 2008. The son of a retired dispatcher from the Union Pacific Railroad, Thomson has been around the railroad industry his entire life. He began his career with the RRB as a retirement claims examiner over 30 years ago at its headquarters in Chicago. He moved to the RRB’s field service in August 1993. He worked in field offices before returning to RRB headquarters in 2015 to work as an assistant to the Labor Member. Thomson graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Northern Iowa, where he also obtained certification to teach secondary education.
