Western States Organizer - M.O.R.E. Work Investment Fund
International Brotherhood of Boilermakers
Pablo Barrera began his career as a Teamsters union member working as a warehouseman at the Safeway Distribution Center in Tracy, California. He soon became interested in working with the union and was hired as an organizer/assistant business agent. His leadership and language skills were assets in organizing a number of companies in Northern California’s canning and food processing industry.
Barrera later worked for the largest Teamsters local in Northern California, where he was a business agent and later became Director of Organizing. During this time, the local organized over 2,000 transit bus drivers who worked for all of the major tech companies, and Barrera organized workers in the public sector, construction and manufacturing as well.
Since coming to the Boilermakers, Barrera successfully organized Doppelmayr, which subcontracts to the Bay Area Rapid Transit and runs the airport extension. This is the first organized operation of the multinational company in the U.S. and its first collective bargaining agreement. Barrera is currently working on a Siemens organizing campaign in Sacramento and investigating other leads to further the union’s organizing efforts.
